BAND OF GOLD (Aitken ’10) BB, 24" (61cm ), ML. This is a very vigorous plant so give it room! It is another variation of the ‘dark tops’ we have been introducing for several years. Closed standards are rich copper-rose. This color repeats on the falls as a dark pencil line rim on the petal edges plus a ghosting of copper-rose color inside the gold banded perimeter. The falls are white from the ghosting to the coral red beard. There is a smooth orange wash across the hafts. In spite of its TB parentage, this plant has excellent proportion for a BB in flower size, stem height and foliage.

DEVIL’S WALTZ (L. Markham ’10) BB, 27" (68.5cm), ML. This graceful, beautifully ruffled iris was easy to name but nearly impossible to describe. Think swirling skirts of dark iridescent taffeta, flashing gunmetal blue or sultry dark red as the light changes. Or try a banked fire, blending red embers with wood smoke. You decide, and prepare to change your mind several times – we’ve been looking at it with interest for several seasons in all sorts of weather and we’re still confused about everything except how much we love it! Whatever the color, it intrigues, and the rich gold-bronze beards suit it nicely. An exuberant plant yields plenty of lovely stalks carrying 3 branches, spur and terminal for 8 or 9 buds and a long bloom season. Fertile both ways and we eagerly await some strange and wonderful seedlings!

GOING DOTTY (S. Markham ’10) MTB, 20" (50.8 cm) M. The flowers on this petite powerhouse are sanded all over in dark red-violet plicata dots on a white ground, set off with gold beards and yellow on the sides of the style arms. This iris loves to bloom, putting up loads of beautifully branched stalks with up to 13 buds each, and the plant is extremely vigorous, quickly forming a nice, tight clump. But the flowers are only part of the story—the buds, spathes, stem joints and base of the foliage are all heavily stained with a distinctive red-purple wash, making this iris almost as pretty in bud as it is in bloom. BEAT GOES ON (Aitken ’10) SDB, 10" (25cm) ML, RE 3 buds. White flowers with an aquamarine blue spot on the falls. The spot is pronounced in cool weather but may fade with heat. Flower form is excellent with domed standards and round blocky flared falls, nicely ruffled. Tangerine beards. It represents a major breakthrough on ‘timing’ of rebloom. In two year clumps, it starts blooming at midseason for SDBs and continues for 2 months right through TB season and beyond! Both parents, Lumalite and Joe Cool, generate rebloom seedlings. Combine that with the excellent form of Marky Smith’s SDB Shallows and you come up with a real winner. Pod fertile.

RED REPEATER (Aitken ’10) JI, 36" (91cm) Our best sequential bloom - EML-RE (in cool climates). This 3 fall Japanese iris has shown a strong tendency to continue blooming well into the summer, at least in our cool Northwest climate. (May not happen in warmer climates). The predominant color is a soft rose red applied to very generously overlapping round falls held nearly horizontal. The flowers appear to be floating above the foliage. The yellow signal is surrounded by an explosion of white which dwindles to veins before reaching the petal edges. Standards are very small, mainly white, with soft rose red at the edges. Stylearms are stiff, semi upright white with rose red feathering at the stigmatic lip. Bloom stems carry one branch but the plant continues to put up bloom stems sequentially for months when in two year clumps.
